Talking to your club
Thank you for getting on board with the campaign, Play On – free period wear in sports clubs so you can play on.
Here is the email/text/Whatsapp/whatever you like (!) template or you can use it as some suggested talking points.
You can use it as inspiration and write your own.
You can tweak this one – add some parts in and take some bits away.
You can use this one as it is. Whichever way you choose to use it, just make sure you change the parts in bold!
Remember it can be from you, you and your teammates (get their permission first!), you and your family – whatever works for you. Be the activist and drive change, knowing that we’re right here to help!
Good luck! And don’t forget to email us with how you get on so that we can give your club a big shout out.
Dear / Hi XXX
I/we really love playing XXX (name of sport) at XXX (name of club) and we would like to attract more girls to play with us.
Did you know that periods put girls off sport? We would like it if XXX (name of club) provided free period wear in the toilets.
You might have seen that some of the professional sports club do this but there’s no reason why we can’t too. We just need some tampons and some period pads left out by the basins in the ladies’ toilets, perhaps in a little basket or bag, in case any girl or woman is caught short. It happens to us a lot – it’s embarrassing, causes anxiety and makes us feel as though we just want to go home rather than train or play in a match.
We are Girls in Sport, Freda and Fab Little Bags have put together a period wear starter box for clubs like ours and I have a discount code that we can use. The starter boxes contain quite a lot so will last a long time! Just go to www.fablittlebag.com and use WAGIS as the discount code for 20% off!
I/We hope that you will take this request seriously. We want our club to be girl friendly and being period friendly is a great way to demonstrate that it is.
Best regards
XXX (Your name/s)
